Born in Grayling, Michigan April of 2000, TAHMYA aka Tamya Joye was raised on Rock and Roll from the 50's-90's. Having moved to a suburban town in Southwest Michigan at the age of 2, The music became Y2K Pop, Hip-Hop and R&B until her Grandmother's passing in 2014. Shortly after, She moved to Kalamazoo with her mother and from then on, Philosophical Hip-Hop of the Nineties and from there, an aspiration.
"Artists like Bobby Darin, Janis Joplin, Dire Straits, KRS-One. As a teen, The radio was all I had and these were the songs that came on. After my Mimi died, I needed an outlet, Music was there. No matter what I was going through. I want to be that music for others."
Performing as a cheerleader for 10 years and Having played the Guitar and Keyboard since 9 years old, Tamya chose a career in Music, producing at the age of 13 under the name of DJ TeeJay. After graduating High School a year early, She began studying Graphic Design and Creative Business at KVCC, Releasing her first single titled "Mind Ya Business" under her new name of TAHMYA. Now, being an Independent Artist, She produces all beats and lyrics for her songs, as well as the accompanying artwork for them.
